A new wintertime activity has made its way to the Golden Isles! Jekyll Island opened its new Skating Village just in time for the holidays and has proven to be a popular experience for visitors and locals alike.

Located just north of Great Dunes Park, the outdoor Skating Village provides spectacular panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as room for up to 40 skaters at once. The rink is made of a synthetic “ice” from a special plastic polymer, meaning it’s possible to skate whether it’s a balmy 70 degrees or a chilly 40 degrees without having to worry if the surface is going to melt!

The different type of material used to construct the skating rink makes it an ideal outlet for first-time skaters. Experienced skaters can continue to hone their skills as this surface requires additional finesse to complete the perfect pirouette.

In addition to the skating area, the Skating Village also provides viewing areas for spectators, as well as a chalet where guests can purchase special merchandise, snacks and drinks.

Hours for the Village are 3:00 – 9:00pm Monday – Thursday, and 10:00am – 10:00pm Friday – Sunday. The Skating Village is open for the season from late November through January 10 and plans to reopen next year for the Jekyll Island Tree Lighting Festival.
