If you are planning on being a spectator at this year’s PGA TOUR McGladrey Classic, we have gathered all the essential details for you right here.
What is the McGladrey Classic?
This annual golf tournament—now in its sixth year—was started by legendary PGA TOUR golfer Davis Love III, in support of the Davis Love Foundation. In the first five years, the tournament has raised more than $2.7 million for charities that help children and families at risk of poor education, economic, social and health outcomes. The golf tournament is played at the magnificent Sea Island Golf Club.
What’s new this year?
New Week—November 16–22. The Classic will be the last event in November, the final PGA TOUR FedExCup event of the 2015 calendar year.
New Course—Plantation Course. In addition to the Seaside course, a links course graced by majestic ocean vistas, competitive rounds will also be held on the Plantation Course on Thursday and Friday. The Plantation Course unfolds among a forest of ancient live oak and cedar, with a hint of danger lurking in its tidal creeks and lakes. The Plantation Course boasts expansive fairways that give definition to the course, showcasing beautiful views of the ocean and oaks.
Larger Field—156 players. Twenty-four additional professional golfers will tee it up at the Classic on Thursday, November 19. After play on Friday, the field will be reduced to the top 70 players plus ties. Play on the weekend will be on the Seaside Course only.
New Concert Location—McKinnon/St. Simons Airport. This year’s “Under the Oaks” concert, presented by Southeast Georgia Health System, will be held at the McKinnon/St. Simons Airport at 7:00pm Saturday, November 21.
Who will be playing this year?
Players have until Friday, November 13 to commit. Past champions have included Robert Streb, Chris Kirk, Tommy Gainey, Ben Crane and Heath Slocum. In addition to several PGA TOUR notables, country music superstar Martina McBride will be performing at the live “Under the Oaks” concert on Saturday night before the final day of tournament play on Sunday. Where can I get tickets?
Tickets are available online through the tournament’s official website. Packages include ticket booklets for access throughout the whole week or daily tickets. Practice rounds on Monday are FREE to the public.
Where are the spectator areas?
Tickets grant you access to the Seaside Course and Plantation Course grounds, and allow you to follow your favorite golfers within set boundaries along the edge of each hole. A grand stand behind the 18th hole at Seaside allows spectators a great vantage point for the tournament-winning putt on Sunday.
Where can I park?
All tournament parking is free and provided at McKinnon Airport, located on nearby St. Simons Island, where shuttles transport tournament-goers from the lot to the golf course. The shuttle ride takes between 5 to 10 minutes. A fun alternative is to ride a bike to the tournament. Ample bike racks are available at the tournament entrance, and for every bike ridden to the McGladrey Classic, the Davis Love Foundation will donate $2 to the Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
