The Coastal Georgia Historical Society will be presenting a lecture series in honor of the 150th birthday of the St. Simons Lighthouse. The programs will also be avaliable via live stream. Register online at coastalgeorgiahistory.org.
On Thursday, August 25, the series will feature the exploration of the presidential election of 1872. This was the first election after the formation of the National Woman Suffrage Association. In her lecture “The Year Susan B. Anthony Voted and Women Almost Secured Voting Rights for All Americans,” historian Ellen Dubois will describe how Anthony, along with women in several other localities, attempted to vote in Rochester, New York, which led to her arrest and widely publicized trial.
