Gene Threats Art Exhibit

Details

Golden Isles Arts & Humanities will be showcasing the artwork of local artist Gene Threats during the month of July. The exhibit will open on First Friday, July 6th with a reception from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Art has always been a part of Gene's life; he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Valdosta State University but was unable to fully pursue his career after graduation as he was committed to assisting his mother who was ill. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with total kidney failure and had to undergo rigorous dialysis treatments. It was during this time that he took up color pencils and would draw during his treatments. He has established a unique body of work all done with color pencils.

Gene's work represents religious and family themes, including community events and locations with an emphasis on people in particular African-American life and culture. "We are delighted to be hosting Gene's work again," said Heather Heath, Executive Director. "It is amazing the depth and vibrancy he achieves in what many may consider a very simple medium. I know patrons will be impressed and moved by his work."
