Laura writes about characters that must navigate deception and betrayal and has become curious about people’s ability to rise above misfortune. She was part of the Screenwriting Program at the University of Washington and a writing course at the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop. She was a winner of the Washington State Screenplay Competition and a book reviewer for the Vashon Island newspaper. Her previous books are “The Beachcomber” and “China Rock.” She visits to talk about her latest book, “The Laguna Beach Research Club” (release date September 14), a story set in St. Augustine and centers around Laila Harrow. Laila is an art cataloguer who is trying to revive her career. With the help of her good friend and researcher, Billie Farmer, Laila has volunteered to produce a catalog of Florida Highwaymen paintings, works by a group of African-American artists growing in fame and value. When Billie dies under suspicious circumstances, Laila follows the facts as Billie taught her and uncovers a dangerous web of deceit and corruption.
