Paul Rominger and “The Battle of Richmond, Kentucky: 1862 Weather and Civil War Digest.” In August of 1862, the Confederate Army of Kentucky under the command of General Edmund Kirby Smith battled Union forces guarding the town of Richmond, Kentucky, led by Union General William Bull Nelson. In his book, Rominger outlines not only the battle itself, but also the participants, methods, and equipment used in that war and presents what life was like for combatants throughout the Civil War, how it impacted the nearby communities of Richmond and Berea, and weather conditions in central Kentucky for the year.
