Camp Jekyll

Camp Jekyll

A Destination for Youth Education and Recreation

Occupying the same site of the original Jekyll Island 4-H Center, Camp Jekyll is owned by the Jekyll Island Authority and is operated by Georgia 4-H. Camp Jekyll continues a rich tradition of teaching youth and helping them explore the beauty of Jekyll Island.

Camp Jekyll offers education and summer camp programs through Georgia 4-H, and the oceanfront campus is also available to youth groups and camps for private rentals. From environmental education programs to soccer camps and band camps, the new 15-acre campus was designed to be kid-friendly and can accommodate groups of varying size and ages.

The Camp Jekyll campus is also adjacent to the 11-acre Jekyll Island Soccer Complex. The Complex features five soccer fields, restrooms, concession facilities, and ample parking. The fields are also just steps from the ocean. Rentals of the Soccer Complex are coordinated through Georgia 4-H. The Complex is available in conjunction with the rental of Camp Jekyll, or separately.

About Camp Jekyll

As a Jekyll Island Authority-owned property, the buildings and grounds are maintained by the JIA, while all programming, reservations, and day-to-day operations are handled by Georgia 4-H. A long-standing partnership, the JIA and 4-H have worked together since the early 1980s. This partnership continues to grow and strengthen youth education and recreation in the state.

Originally the site of the historic Dolphin Club and Motor Hotel, the state’s first integrated beach access, the campus was redesigned to be kid-friendly and can accommodate groups of varying size and ages, sleeping up to 256 campers at once. The original, outdated buildings that made up the Jekyll Island 4-H Center were beyond repair and completely removed. The site was rebuilt to include 12 new buildings and a sprawling campus with more than nine acres of grassy play areas.

In keeping with Jekyll Island’s mission of preservation, the historic Beach Pavilion, the site of historic African American events and family gatherings, was preserved and restored and is now home to the Camp’s canteen and gift shop. Trees from the original Jekyll Island Convention Center were saved and transplanted at the entrance of the campus.
