Beach Vacation: A Weekend Itinerary

The feeling of soft sand beneath your toes, the soothing lull of waves crashing on the shore, the spectacular sunsets—what’s not to love about a beach getaway?

No matter what time of year, Golden Isles beaches exemplify what we love most about the Georgia coast: a laid-back vibe, mild temperatures all year, and untouched, natural beauty. Plan your perfect beach weekend with this easygoing itinerary.

Start your getaway with a walk along the beach to watch the sunset. St. Andrews beach offers the only west-facing beach on Jekyll Island, making it an ideal vantage point to watch the sun go down.

Or, for exclusive access to Sea Island beach, book your weekend stay at The Inn at Sea IslandThe Cloister or The Lodge at Sea Island. All three of these high-end hotels offer guests Forbes Five-Star luxury, as well as exclusive access to five miles of private beach, making it a perfect setting for watching the sunset.

Indulge in a leisurely breakfast at Palmer's Village Cafe on St. Simons Island. This casual and well loved restaurant is located in the heart of the St. Simons Pier Village and offers sumptuous breakfast options, many of which are paired with fresh seafood, such as the Surf Squared, a spin off of eggs benedict served with crab cakes. (Bonus: Palmer's serves breakfast all day, so it's perfect for those who like to sleep in late.)

Then, spend the day along St. Simons Island’s ever-popular East Beach, which offers three access points: Gould’s Inlet, U.S. Coast Guard Station and Massengale Park.

Want to gain private access to the coveted Little St. Simons Island beach? Go on a guided adventure with a knowledgeable naturalist during daily tours offered by The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island. These tours will take you to the exclusive Little St. Simons Island beach access points, where activities could range from beach combing to a walk near the sand dunes to watch turtles laying eggs.

For your last day, explore Jekyll Island beaches. Families will love the bustling Great Dunes Park, where you can lounge in the sun, rent a bike to explore the nearby trails, or let the kids run loose on the beach. Pack a picnic, or have lunch at Beach House, offering casual fare such as burgers, sandwiches and shrimp and grits.

For a more relaxed experience, stroll along the expansive boardwalk, and spread out a beach towel on Glory Beach while soaking up your last moments in the Golden Isles.
