The Golden Isles of Georgia welcomes guests of all abilities and is committed to providing accessible, inclusive experiences across its barrier islands and mainland communities. Service animals are permitted in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which allows trained service animals to accompany their handlers in public spaces, lodging, restaurants, and attractions throughout St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Sea Island, and Brunswick. While policies are consistent with federal law, each destination has unique environments and access considerations that visitors should understand when planning their trip.

On St. Simons Island, service animals are welcome in public areas, beaches, accommodations, and most businesses, following ADA guidelines. Beach access is available with some seasonal restrictions for animals in general, so handlers should pay close attention to posted signage during peak summer months. Outside of restricted times, service animals may accompany their handlers on the beach as needed.

On Jekyll Island, service animals are permitted in public spaces, state park areas, and most visitor facilities. Because Jekyll Island is a state-managed park, certain protected areas and wildlife-sensitive zones may have additional guidance, but ADA-compliant access is maintained wherever appropriate. Leash control and responsible handling are expected in all outdoor environments.

On Sea Island, access is more limited due to its private, resort-based nature. Service animals are permitted for guests and visitors in compliance with ADA requirements; however, access to certain facilities may be restricted to resort guests or members, and it is recommended to contact properties directly in advance to confirm accommodations.

On Little St. Simons Island, all pets and animals are strictly prohibited, with the exception of federally recognized service animals when required for accessibility needs and approved in advance through the island’s guest services team. Because this is a privately owned and environmentally protected wilderness preserve, access is highly controlled to protect native wildlife and habitats.

In Brunswick, service animals are welcomed throughout the historic downtown, lodging properties, restaurants, and public spaces. As the gateway to the Golden Isles, Brunswick offers the most traditional city environment, making it especially accessible for travelers with service animals seeking walkable streets, outdoor dining, and convenient amenities.

Across the Golden Isles, service animals play an important role in ensuring all visitors can fully experience Georgia’s coast. While policies remain consistent with federal ADA law, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, respect local environmental guidelines, and reach out to individual attractions or accommodations for any specific questions. With thoughtful preparation, the Golden Isles offers a welcoming and inclusive coastal getaway for everyone.
