Things to Do with Family in the Golden Isles

There’s a reason families have been coming to the Golden Isles for decades… so many ways to have fun together.

Bowling

Looking for a fun indoor activity during your visit? Test your bowling skills against family and friends in the Golden Isles. Bowling is a great activity to do with kids, especially on a rainy day or when you need a break from the beach!

Disc Golf

Located at Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons Island, this 6-hole course is challenging because of the low tree canopy and hole design that utilizes the ancient live oaks as obstacles. Bring your own discs/frisbees. Use the links below to see a course map, game rules, and print a scorecard.

Miniature Golf

Miniature golf fans can sharpen their skills at the Neptune Park Fun Zone on St. Simons Island, or the Jekyll Island Putt Putt course near Great Dunes Park. The latter includes courses for beginners and the more advanced. Enjoy some friendly competition while still taking in the island sun and the ocean breeze.

Movies, Plays & Live Performances

Experience musicals, concerts, plays, comedians, and classic movies in downtown Brunswick. Or, check out a community theater performance on St. Simons Island. Be sure to check our Live Music events listings.

For movies on the big screen, check out the Glynn Place Cinemas in Brunswick and Island Cinema 7 on St. Simons Island, behind the Shops at Sea Island.

Picnics

Why eat indoors when you can relax under century-old live oaks, breathing the fresh sea air, surrounded by ocean, river and marsh views? Pack your own basket or get takeout from a local restaurant and choose from a wealth of outdoor sites.

Our designated picnic areas can accommodate any size group with small rental pavilions, barbeque grills, and running water. Larger groups can let one of our local caterers fix up a southern barbeque, seafood boil, or a house specialty. There are no charges for use of the facilities unless you make reservations with Glynn County Recreation & Parks (optional but recommended for larger groups).

Please respect the environment by leaving each area you visit as you found it and pack out what you packed in. Recycling is available at many area parks. Thank you for helping us to keep the Golden Isles beautiful!

Playgrounds

Playgrounds throughout the Golden Isles offer slides, jungle gyms, swings, and other fun structures. The Neptune Park Fun Zone on St. Simons Island boasts the largest playground, while the Massengale Park playground is shaded and also offers beach access. The 153 acres, multi-use North Glynn Recreational Complex in Brunswick can be a day-long fun trip.

Skate Parks

The St. Simons skate park is located in Demere Park, toward the south end of the island. Its sister park in Brunswick is at the North Glynn Recreation Complex. Each park has a different design and features for young skaters as well as the more advanced. Both parks include plaza elements such as stairs, ramps, rails, and ledges in addition to half pipes and bowl sections.

Waterparks

During the summer months, you can choose from the mellow Neptune Park Fun Zone near St. Simons Island Lighthouse or the exciting Summer Waves Water Park on Jekyll Island.

The Neptune Park Fun Zone pool features a children’s water park with slides, water spouts, and cannons, along with a wading pool, lap lanes, and shaded lounge chairs.
