St. Simons Island & Jekyll Island Biking

One of the best ways to explore the Golden Isles is on two wheels. Take in the beauty and serenity of the Golden Isles while discovering quaint neighborhoods, historic sites, beautiful beaches and pristine marshland from the seat of your bike. Biking on the Georgia coast is a family-friendly and leisurely activity with miles of scenic trails and hard-packed beaches to travel. Bring your own bike or rent one from one of our bike shops to begin exploring!

Golden Isles Biking Paths and Trails

There are two main trail systems in the Golden Isles. St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island each have more than 20 miles of paved bike paths that provide easy and safe access to attractions, restaurants and shops without the use of a car. 

St. Simons Island Biking Trail

The St. Simons Island biking trail system provides connections to various activities across the island. You can take a heritage tour at the Harrington School, fish at St. Simons Island Pier or view native wildlife at Cannon’s Point Preserve just to name a few. If you want to get off the paved paths, East Beach is an excellent spot for beach biking during low tide. The beach is accessible from any entry point such as Massengale Park.

Jekyll Island Biking Trail

Jekyll Island’s biking trail system encircles the island and includes points of interest such as the Georgia Sea Turtle CenterDriftwood Beach and historic district. Biking on Jekyll Island offers a variety of sightseeing options whether you prefer to bike through maritime forests, alongside the beach or down lively shopping streets.

There are plenty of other nature trails and recreation areas for biking on the Georgia coast. These other spots are great to explore for a half day or to get some exercise in during your stay in the Golden Isles.

Things to Bring on a Bike Ride

If you’re renting a bike from one of Golden Isles' bike shops, you probably won’t need to bring much! Many shops include a lock and helmet with each rental. Just make sure to dress comfortably and bring water.
