Howard Coffin Park

Details

Howard Coffin Park is the largest park in Brunswick, Georgia and was named after one of the founders of Hudson Motor Company, Howard Earle Coffin. A millionaire by age 30, Coffin purchased extensive real estate in Georgia, such as nearby Sapelo Island and Sea Island, turning it into a resort in the Golden Isles. Coffin and his wife are buried at Christ Church on the northern end of St. Simons Island.Howard Coffin Park is located on the corner of U.S. Hwy. 17 and Gloucester Street in Brunswick. This park offers a local community center, aquatic center, plenty of green space, four tennis courts, four baseball/softball diamonds, two soccer/football fields, a half-mile walking track, children’s playgrounds, picnic areas, and a dog park. Restrooms are located at the local community center and aquatic center when open.Harold E. Jennings Wellness Park is located within Howard Coffin Park along U.S. Hwy 17, behind the community center. This smaller park actually contains the half-mile walking track along with 15 fitness stations with instructional signs. This is called the Parcourse FitCircuit which is a series of 15 exercise events occurring at eight separate stations located along the half-mile jogging/walking path. Simply follow the path to each station and perform the exercises specified until you reach the finish sign at the end. The name “Parcourse” implies, there is a recommended “par” or number of repetitions suggested on each sign for each of three different fitness levels. As you select your fitness level, please remember that the Par merely represents recommended goals based on your own physical condition. Work out at your own risk and remember to stay hydrated. Bring your own water and snacks.Blue Streak Dog Park is also located within Howard Coffin Park on the northern most point along U.S. Hwy. 17. This is a great place to let your dog run to burn off some energy or to play with other dogs that frequent the area. Dog bags are provided at this location for owners to clean up after their dog. As usual, be sure to follow all dog park rules when using this public park. For both the Harold E. Jennings Wellness Park and Blue Streak Dog Park, you can access parking along U.S. Hwy. 17 in addition to driving into the main Howard Coffin Park parking lot. Simply pull over and park at any of the designated grass parking areas along U.S. Hwy. 17.
