Southeast Georgia Health System Fitness Trail
The Southeast Georgia Health System Fitness Trail is located adjacent to the St. Simons Immediate Care Center and Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons Island. The trail opened in the fall of 2006 as part of the Health System’s dedication to promoting health and wellness through regular exercise. The half-mile, paved trail is open daily from daylight to dusk. It gracefully curves and winds its way through a forest of live oaks, cedars, bamboo, and other native plants while benches and fitness stations are strategically placed along the way. The trail is also accessible to anyone who is physically challenged, including those who must use a wheelchair or other mobility device.
The entrance of the trail, which is located on Arthur J. Moore Drive, is marked by a wood and synthetic oyster tabby arbor that matches the architectural style used throughout the Golden Isles. The arbor was donated in memory of Dottie Castle, by her daughters, and the Sea Island Garden Group. The trail’s bamboo loop was made possible by a gift from Mike and Lucia Gumaer and is named in their honor.
