Spend a Relaxing Weekend on Sea Island
What’s better than a getaway to a secluded beach? How about a vacation where you don’t have to worry about a single thing? On Sea Island, your Georgia coast vacation isn’t just a luxury destination; it’s truly a world apart.
Here is our favorite way to spend a weekend on Sea Island for a second-to-none retreat:
Where to Stay
Since Sea Island is a private island, selecting your lodging and accommodations is an important first step in your planning. Keep in mind that the resort's amenities and activities are available to guests of the resort and its members.
With four incredible accommodations options, including beachfront cottages, there are plenty of settings from which to choose.
The Cloister at Sea Island
The Cloister on Sea Island, an annual recipient of Forbes Five-Star awards, is made up of three distinctive settings for your stay: the main building and wings of The Cloister, Sea Island Beach Club, and The Cloister Ocean Residences.
The Lodge at Sea Island
Named the #1 Hotel in the U.S.A. by U.S. News & World Report, the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond Awards, The Lodge at Sea Island is the perfect hideaway for visitors seeking classic luxury or a pristine golfing retreat. Located on St. Simons Island, The Lodge provides access to all Sea Island amenities, including its three 18-hole championship golf courses.
Sea Island Cottages
With private homes from three to eight bedrooms, some with pools and magnificent views, the cottages offer the fourth option for accommodations on Sea Island. Perfect for friends and families traveling together, with access to all Sea Island amenities.
The Inn by Sea Island
The most casual of Sea Island accommodations, The Inn by Sea Island, is located on St. Simons Island. The Inn offers 85 rooms and on-site amenities include a pool, complimentary breakfast and bicycles, and a Topgolf Swing Suite and Bar. Sea Island Resort access is not available to guests of The Inn, unless a Sea Island Golf Package is booked, which provides access to the Sea Island Golf Club.
Broadfield Sporting Club & Lodge
The Broadfield Sporting Club & Lodge is a unique, 5,800-acre sporting club that offers activities such as hunting, shooting, falconry, fishing and more. Located 45 minutes south of Sea Island, Broadfield is great for groups of up to 18 guests, as you can either rent a Guest House (sleeps 4), the Lodge (sleeps 14) or the full property (sleeps 18).
Don’t forget to check our list of specials and packages before you book! Once you select the property that is best for your group, here is how we recommend spending your weekend on Sea Island:
Day 1: Relax in Paradise
Travelling can take a lot out of you, no matter how close or far you’re coming from. Our solution? A relaxing retreat.
Morning: Tour the Beach
Our favorite way to wake up on Sea Island is to take a stroll along the beach in the early morning. Bring a cup of coffee, and watch the sunrise over the ocean. Head back to your hotel for a nice breakfast before coming back out to the beach for some peaceful reading, sunbathing, swimming or participation in various water sports.
Brought the kids? Relaxation isn’t as far away as you think. Sea Island offers supervised children’s programs and teen activities to give the kids a break from their parents, just for days like these!
Afternoon: Relax at the Spa
Sea Island offers an award-winning, 65,000-square-foot Forbes Five-Star Spa. Schedule a day of treatments: a custom Swedish massage, a Balinese massage or a classic hot stone massage; a body polish treatment, an exfoliating skin treatment or a cooling and calming wrap; a custom European facial, a collagen-boosting treatment or a firming and lifting facial.
When you have finished your spa experience, relax in one of the spa pools until you are ready to meet back up with your family.
Evening: Dinner at Colt & Alison
Another one of Sea Island’s can’t-miss experiences is Colt & Alison at The Lodge, a classic steakhouse, with the finest cuts of USDA wet- and dry-aged beef, the freshest local seafood, and locally sourced side dishes. However, it is only open to resort guests.
Experience warm wood floors with varied tones, sage green walls with gold accents, an elegant and charming glassed-in veranda, and topped off with big bay windows overlooking Plantation #18.
Day 2: Embark on an Adventure
A trip to the Georgia coast wouldn’t be complete without some once-in-a-lifetime adventures! And with seemingly endless opportunities for adventure on Sea Island, you won’t be at a loss for ways to complete your weekend escape.
Morning: Take a Swing
A stay on Sea Island almost demands a morning spent playing 18 holes. Rise early, grab breakfast at your hotel and choose one of three Sea Island Golf Club championship courses.
Play where the pros play, (more than two dozen live and/or train right here), on Seaside and Plantation, site of the PGA TOUR's RSM Classic, or take a swing at the Retreat Course, redesigned by Sea Island Touring Professional Davis Love III and his brother, Mark Love.
Afternoon: A New Perspective
Sea Island provides incredible opportunities for guests to uniquely immerse themselves in nature. Whether you prefer touring the ocean by sailboat or paddling your kayak through the marsh, there are plenty of opportunities to see the island from the sea.
Looking to stay dry? Spend your morning on a naturalist-led walk on the beach, a bike tour or even a marsh walk instead. During turtle season, check out the dawn turtle patrol. Learn more.
Evening: Ride Off into the Sunset
Arrange for an evening horseback ride along the beach with the whole family for a unique Golden Isles experience. Tour Sea Island's beach, explore maritime forests and get up close and personal with nature as the sun goes down.
